Paul Marmor, Chair of Alliott Group Legal and Head of Litigation and International Services at Sherrards Solicitors, gave presentations in New York and Boston on “Doing business in the UK”.

The seminars were organised by UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) and The Law Society, to promote and showcase UK plc to the States. The British Consulates in New York and Boston hosted the events, which had audiences of 80 - 90 people at each seminar.

UKTI is a joint venture between the Foreign & Commonwealth Office and the Department For Business, Innovation and Skills, which has, as a principal objective, the aims to help spearhead and encourage the export of British professional services and industry overseas, and to procure inward investment into the UK.

The aim of the seminars was to give an idea to US businesses who are either thinking about doing business in the UK, or are already here and want to expand their operation, of how to navigate their way through our legal system in dealing with such matters as: employment, tax, immigration, and, in particular, how an American business would fare in using our Courts, which was the subject of Paul’s presentation. Paul has a lot of experience in acting for American and other foreign businesses with litigation in England, or cross-border and international cases, including arbitration. Paul’s talk was entitled “Why is Britain the jurisdiction of choice for American firms wanting to do business in Europe?”
