Masuda Funai, Alliott Group's Chicago law member has developed a strong reputation for advising Japanese clients investing in the U.S. Midwest. This is demonstrated by a report in The Japan Times on Japanese business activity in the region which features comments from several Masuda Funai attorneys.

The lead article in The Japan Times report titled The Strength of the U.S. Economic Heartland indicates economic and business relations between Japan and the U.S. Midwest are at an all-time high. In the report, Masuda Funai indicated that its attorneys are seeing significantly increased Japanese M&A activity and a growing number of facility expansions by Japanese companies in the region. Masuda Funai also discussed that intellectual property assets are increasingly important and that the firm’s Japanese clients are being much more proactive in defending their intellectual property.

Furthermore, the report also highlighted the success of the U.S. Midwest-Japan Conference in Tokyo last September which was attended by Gov. Scott Walker of Wisconsin, Gov. Pete Ricketts of Nebraska, Gov. Bruce Rauner of Illinois and Gov. Rick Snyder of Michigan, as well as U.S. Ambassador to Japan, William Hagerty. Click here for a full report on the conference.
